Palace of Westminster
The Palace of Westminster is the home of both houses of British Parliament and has been since 1512, although most of the present building is new since a fire in 1834.

The Palace is on the North side of the Thames river in Westminster, on the Western edge of Central London.

Big Ben, the clock tower at the Palace's North end, is probably London's best-recognised landmark. The name Big Ben actually refers to the bell inside the clock tower, but is commonly used to represent the clock and clock tower as well.

Victoria Tower, at the South end of the palace, houses the Parliamentary archives.

At the base of Victoria Tower is the Sovereign's Enrance, where the Queen enters the building for the opening of Parliament.

On the West side of the palace is a small section of the original Palace of Westminster which survived the fire, Westminster Hall, which was erected in 1097.
