London What is Steeplehopping?London is the largest city in the United Kingdom at about 8.2 million inhabitants. It is considered the capital of the United Kingdom and England, but this status has actually never been legally or officially granted. As London has grown throughout the years, it has absorbed pieces of neighbouring counties, and London is now one of the largest cities in the world, geographically. In fact, technically, London is actually two cities: the City of London, containing the Tower, the London Bridge, and St. Paul's Cathedral; and the City of Westminster, containing the Parliament, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham Palace.
The City of London was founded at least during Roman times (circa AD 50), but legend states that it there was a town at this location even earlier. No evidence has yet been found to prove this.
